Tuesday - Day Three
Ripples in Water

The Campers slept in today as it was so warm in the sleeping bags that no one wanted to exit them. They got around slowly with Larry and Sophia meeting at the campsite around 10:00am. Everyone finally got on the water around 11am and paddled across Square Pond to Fish Creek. The six paddlers went up Fish Creek to Little Square Pond. It wasn't raining but the air was cool with a breeze. Lunch was at an empty campsite just before Floodwood Pond where a heavy brake rotor from a car was found. Who would expend their energy to carry that in the wilderness?

There is an outfitter on the north shore of Floodwood named St Regis Canoe Outfitters. Dave Cilley, author of the book "New Adirondack Paddler's Guide" is the proprietor and the sale he was having on used gear was too much for the OHCRA members.

After relieving him of some inventory, Larry and Sophia paddled back the way they came with the others canoeing on around the loop trip and into Rollins Pond, a much bigger lake and to a launch ramp located there. A total of 8.7 miles was paddled sometimes into the wind.

Tony walked approximately 1.5 miles back to camp and brought the vehicle and trailer for the boats. Retiring to camp the four tired paddlers had Minnesota Martinis, which consisted of instant Country Time Lemonade and Tequila and a supper of roast beef over baked potatoes and pineapple upside down cake. They had a great campfire since there wasn't any rain and the wind had subsided. In total shock, the four realized that one whole day had past without any rain.
