We are planning another Algonquin Park back country trip for this year. We will be driving up on Saturday October 3rd and returning on Sunday October 11th.
The tentative schedule is as follows:
Day 1 (Sun 10/4) - Put in at Canoe Lake and paddle up to Burnt Lake where we will camp of 2 nights
Day2 (Mon 10/5) - Explore the area around Burnt Lake
Day 3 (Tue 10/6) - Pack up and paddle to Otterslide Lake camp for 1 night
Day 4 (Wed 10/7) - Pack up and paddle to Big Trout Lake and stay 2 nights
Day 5 (Thu 10/8) - Explore Big Trout Lake area
Day 6 (Fri10/9 - Pack up and paddle to McIntosh Lake
Day 7 (Sat 10/10) - Pack up and paddle out to Canoe Lake take out
I know you want to know about portages - there is only one long one and it is on the last day on the way out. It is 2320 meters (2537 yds). There are several short portages on the other travel days around dams and rapids. 790 meters(864 yds) is the longest of these. They are all maintained portages.
We will be paddling on big lakes, small lakes and creeks on this trip so should have a nice variety of experiences.
October should be pretty at this time of year - still some fall color left - it could be chilly so need to pack for a variety of weather.
I need to know if you would like to go so that we can get reservations made. We can take up to 9 people without needing a second campsite and we do need to double up some on tents as there is a number of tents per site.
