Maumee River

Camping will be Friday and Saturday night at Johnny Appleseed Park Campground:

Johnny Appleseed Campground Address: 1500 Coliseum Blvd E, Fort Wayne, IN 46805 Phone: (260) 427-6720

This is a city park. The camping will be around $8.00 or so per night. There is electric for tents if you bring a 125 foot extension hose. If you want to bring a trailer, it is $22.00/night with water and electric. The campground has flush toilets and showers for all. If a few people want to camp in my yard on Thursday night, you are welcome, or make reservations at the campground yourself. They are currently unbooked for tent sites, but there are only a total of 3 tent sites.
The campground has a flat grassy area down by the river and a very easy gravel canoe put in. It is also near walking trails. I will bring bocci and Frisbee. The campground is very close to a mall and numerous eating and drinking places. I suggest for those coming on Friday to meet around 11:00 at the campground and we can go from there. The put in is 2.5 miles from the campground. The campground is just off Coliseum Blvd just east of the actual Coliseum (the campground adjoins the Coliseum property)on the west side of the St. Joseph river.

We can do a 6 mile trip on the Maumee on Friday. We will put in below the dam on the Maumee at Anthony Blvd. Water is low. We will be dodging sand/gravel bars in the beginning, maybe a little dragging thru shallows. The river above the dam did not look appealing to me. The take out will be in New Haven. There are some parking issues down there, which we can discuss. Steve, if you are coming can you please bring your trailer so that we can have only 1 vehicle at the take out?
Saturday will be an 11 mile trip on the St. Joseph from Cedarville back to the dam immediately above the campground. This is an established canoe route, so I do not expect logs or other substantial blockages. The river looked full and decent above the dam. Fort Wayne gets its water from this river so it should be a nice paddle. The route the river takes is almost completely rural.

If you plan to attend the trip, please let me know by calling or texting me at 260-414-5842 or letting me know via the listgroup email. I have reserved all the tent sites at the campground for Friday and Saturday. I just wanted to let them know if not all the sites will be needed for Saturday.

Looking forward to it.
