It rained off and on all night and the temperatures were in the 40's again. Tony was up by 6:15am and woke the others as he was breaking camp in between showers. They were on the road by 9:00 following Larry and Sophia to the Bog River at Horseshoe Lake. They pulled off at Seventh Lake to admire the wonderful country side and further down the road they saw a couple of float planes on Long Lake. Of course the rain continued off and on all day. Pulling into the Bog River parking area it was a busy place. Canoes and kkkayaks were coming and going.
The group put on the water at Lows Lower Dam and paddled three miles to Lows Upper Dam where Larry, Sophia and Tony, hiked 1.1 miles to the top of the Hitchins Pond Overlook for a spectacular view of the brightly colored country side. Of course it was still raining and poor Laurie got soaked and cold. Since there was an old house foundation and fireplace from years ago nearby, Harold kindled a fire and helped warm things up. They all soon paddled the three miles back to the vehicles and departed for the Fish Creek State Campground. They secured a site on Square Pond and sat up camp. Just as the tents were set up, it started raining again. Thank goodness for Harold's EZ Up tarp system. With three sides added on it was a real rain saver for them. Of course Larry and Sophia were nice and cozy in their warm hotel room in Tupper Lake Village. After a supper of chili, Laurie and Ted called it a day while Harold and Tony played cribbage under the EZ Up with the rain tapering off. Lots of gear was wet and sun sure would have been nice.
